When I create, I love to watch the art evolve and allow ideas from my subconscious to flow. It’s a way of learning about myself through imagery. Creating helps me to heal from some of the negative energy in the world. When I create, I take a journey into new territory and open my mind. I have been influenced by the works of Anselm Keifer and Antoni Tapies who use mixed media which gives a tactile and earthy quality to their works. I also enjoy the serenity I find in the art of Georgia O’Keefe.
The way I approach painting is mostly intuitive and a response to my emotions. There are times where I start out with a specific thought, but the painting evolves and changes throughout the process. I began as a landscape painter and have always had a passion for nature, but eventually felt the need to paint in a more expressionistic way. I use acrylics, oils and mixed media which allow me to create rich layers and textures. The process of applying the paint is like peeling back my own emotional layers and transferring them to the surface of my work.
My art allows me the chance to break out of the box society tends to put us in and fully express myself without boundaries. I feel uninhibited when I create and I am totally free to say whatever I want in my art. It is my desire that when viewing my art, others enjoy the beauty and get a sense of that emotional freedom that I get from my creative process.
