Art is a way to connect, engage, and explore both the world around me as well as myself.
— Isabel Chang

My name is Isabel Chang, and I am a junior at Cary Academy. Many of my earliest memories include doodling over every open surface available to me, whether that surface be paper or couch or wall with washable marker and not-so-washable crayon. Sunny afternoons were spent clumsily sketching from reference photos, eagerly running up to my mother with whatever creation I conjure. As I grew up, I began exploring a variety of different media and found myself at home with the rich strokes of oil, the feathery disposition of watercolor, and all the diverse mediums between. My goal is to be able to shine a light pressing issues in our world today as well as explore different emotions through portraits of animals. Not only am I eager to continue ideating and building my technique and portfolio, however, but I am also dedicated to giving back to the larger art community around me. As a co-leader of the Cary Academy Art Club, we organized a school-wide student art gallery and raised over $1000 for a local art charity. I was also commissioned with a few other students to paint a mural for Cary Academy’s Center for Community Engagement and are working on a mural for an educational farm. Art is a way to connect, engage, and explore both the world around me as well as myself.
