LIFE - Myles D Wilder

LIFE

Opening Reception: April 5, 2024

“As an artist, my journey through life has been filled with various experiences and roles, but at my core, I'm connected to artistic expression. Being an artist isn't just about using brushes or pencils; it's a fundamental part of who I am, who I’ve been and who I will be beyond creating physical art. Recognizing this truth has guided me toward a more authentic life. My artwork reflects the complexities of life that I observe and navigate. Inspired by life's twists and turns, I aim to connect with those who appreciate the subtleties of human experience.

Through my art, I explore universal themes like heartbreak and nostalgia, tapping into our shared humanity. I strive to capture moments that unite us all as human beings, from the pain of separation to the warmth of family bonds. Each brushstroke carries echoes of collective memories, rooted in my own life experiences.

Drawing on my introspective nature and peculiar connection with people, I'm influenced by artists like Kerry James Marshall and Liu Xiaodong. Their ability to breathe life into their subjects resonates with me deeply. In my work, such as "On the 7th Day, We Rest," I invite viewers to ponder the hidden narratives beneath the surface. Ultimately, I believe it's the mysterious allure of storytelling that draws us in, encouraging us to uncover the layers of meaning within each piece. Whether we're exploring new territories or cherishing old memories, art has a way of transcending time and space, inviting us into its captivating world.

I hope this exhibition gives us a chance to connect through my art. Each piece is a snapshot of my emotions and experiences at the time I created it. Now that they're here in this gallery, I encourage you to dive in and see where our thoughts and feelings intersect, and where they differ.

Let's explore together.”
